Types of Scaffolding

Scaffolding refers to a temporary structure used in construction to support workers and materials while working at heights. It provides a safe and stable platform for tasks like building, repairing, or cleaning structures such as buildings, bridges, and towers.

Supported Scaffolding

  • The most common type, made from poles or frames that rest on the ground. It can be used for a wide range of tasks at varying heights.

Suspended Scaffolding

  • Platforms that are hung from ropes or cables attached to the structure. Commonly used for tasks like window cleaning or painting tall buildings.

Rolling Scaffolding

  • Similar to supported scaffolding but equipped with wheels, allowing workers to move the structure easily without dismantling it.

Cantilever Scaffolding

  • A structure supported from one end while the other end is free-standing. This is used when the ground doesn't support a traditional scaffold.

Trestle Scaffolding

  • Scaffolding that rests on a movable ladder or tripod. This type is generally used for indoor work and low-level tasks.

Birdcage Scaffolding

  • A large, rectangular scaffold structure used when workers need to operate at a single level, often inside buildings.
